A person's emotional intelligence (EI) refers to the ability to identify, comprehend, control, and assess their own as well as others' emotions. Emotional intelligence can be defined as the ability to recognize, understand, and respond to emotions, to overcome stress in the present, and to be aware of how your words and actions affect others.
With today’s stresses of pandemic, it is imperative that leaders possess good measures of emotional intelligence. Success is not possible for those who lack this skill. Leadership demands role modelling. Think about it: who would you consider a role model? Person who demonstrates agitation, rudeness or person who stays in control of their emotions even in critical times and help teams to calmly assesses the situation to come out with solutions.
Leaders must understand how their emotions and actions affect people around them. The ability to relate to others starts by first relating strongly with self.
