“The stranger sees only what he knows.” – African Proverb
Globalization has eroded boundaries and teams are multi-cultural now. The business ecosystem has an open access format which allows people from different nationalities to seek opportunities anywhere and everywhere. Once people onboard any company few things get normalized. These include some work protocols, office language, policies and procedures common to all. This does make us similar in many ways. However, our difference also still co-exists. Some of these are how we think, what we believe in, what we value, how we collaborate and how we lead.

Our perception of time is different, our methods to deliberate with colleagues, analyze situations and arrive at decisions are different, our courtesies and sensitivities vary while interacting with people. We regard age and experience differently and understand power dynamics based on how we have experienced it as we grew up. Hence building consensus can be outrightly challenging. Our negotiation approach is varied. Commitment and collaborations have different expectation framework.
Essentially this means that communicating with cross cultural teams can be an uphill task. What can help here is having an overview of certain rules, guidelines and awareness of various cultural setups. This will power our strategies to communicate more effectively with various cultural teams. Our leadership training program on ‘Cross Cultural Communication' aims to deliver just that expertise you require to be able to win friends and influence colleagues at work, irrespective of their nationality.
